The UK has four constituent countries and a variety of great cities across them: Glasgow, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Belfast, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool. All are known internationally. All have a active economic centres. And all of them are generating news of relevance to the UK – and probably the world – on a daily basis.
London is no longer the centre of “everything” it once was and the prominence of the “regions” – as they’re known in broadcasting parlance – is growing.
Next year, the BBC will begin moving a sizeable chunk of its news operation to Salford; with BBC Breakfast and BBC Radio 5 Live amongst the most high-profile to make the move north.
